Cache Maintenance

Last Summer a local cacher (hirtle) asked me if I had ever seen a geocoin promoting cache maintenance. I couldn't recall one, and after a bit of searching I came to the conclusion that there really wasn't one. So I ran with the idea and came up with this coin.

I have always like the idea that you should leave a cache in better shape than when you found it. Whether that means simply hiding it a little better or replacing a wet log or a cracked container, it makes the experience for those who follow that much better.

This coin should remind cache owners to maintain their caches when problems are reported, and remind cache finders to do what they can to leave all caches in good shape.

Rhino Geocoin

This coin was made to go along with some of my other recent African themed coins. The design was based on a photo I took of a young Black Rhino at the Daphne Sheldrick's Elephant Orphanage just outside Nairobi, Kenya - which was turned into a 3D design for the front of the coin. The back side features a rhino in an African savannah in hard enamels and soft enamels with epoxy. And the coins come in 4 different antique plated finishes, along with 2 limited edition finishes in Black Nickel and Satin Silver - representing the endangered Black and White rhinos.

They measure 2 inches wide, 5mm thick (at thickest point), with a highly detailed 3D front, and design with soft enamels under epoxy on the back.

This is the Antique Gold version, with 75 made in this finish.

It's trackable on with it's own unique icon, and comes in a protective sleeve with activation retrieval information.
