Alabama's original Statehood date was December 14, 1819.
The reverse design features Helen Keller reading Braille. The inscriptions include the State name, "Helen Keller" and a banner reading "Spirit of Courage." The reverse was designed and engraved by Norman E. Nemeth.
Helen Keller was born in Alabama and lost her sight and hearing after an illness. She managed to learn to read and write and graduate college with honors. The reverse of the quarter includes her name written in Braille.
The State Medallion series is based on artwork from the US Mint which was used on the 50 State Quarter Program. The medallions will come in a two medallion set containing a quarter size (24.26mm) medallion and a 38mm medallion. There will be special state map that you can place the smaller ones in, if you so desire. The set (both medallions) will have the same tracking number so please do not release both at the same time.
