__Netsuke - Maple Leaf

series of two coins for me (possibly a third) called the “Netsuke Geocoin”. A Netsuke is a small stopper used so that you can hang a purse through your belt (or, in Japan, the obi [belt] of your kimono [wrap or robe]). The stopper prevents the purse from slipping out from under your belt. Netsuke come in a fantastical array of shapes, from simple knot-like forms to complicated, puzzle-like interwoven animal shapes. One less well-known shape is the manju, named after a type of Japanese candy. It happens to be round, and flat, not unlike a geocoin. Unlike the classical manju, though, my interpretation is a bit more oval in shape. But it is an actual functional netsuke, in that there is a hole through which you can thread a cord to make the geocoin into a stopper.

This one will be available in Antique Copper, Antique Silver, and Antique Gold and has no color on it: it’s purely an exercise in 3D and texture. The AE of that will be Antique Bronze (15 made).

If the series is successful, we’ll do a third geocoin for the series -- the Cherry Blossom Netsuke. Also, the icon status for this coin also depends on the sales: if they sell very well, each coin in the series will have its own icon; otherwise they’ll have a common icon.
